The Kiwanis Grove and Memorial was first dedicated in
2001 to honor are past member Bill Turner, a true Kiwanian with 52 years
of perfect attendance. Then District Governor Tom Vildibill and First Lady
Shirley were present. The memorial included placing a plaque, bench and
planting of 100 oak trees. Now in 2005 the club has added the memorial
stone and added two additional deceased members.
Jim Bowden was a short time member with just two
years of service in the club when he passed away in December 1999. However
Jim in his short time he had accumulated over 600 hours of service time,
and was a major force in our Hook on Fishing NOT Drug project. This
project has grown every year and we now provide free fishing for over
1,100 children each year.
Roger Johnson was with our club for fourteen year
before passing in June of 2002. Roger was a past president and secretary
of the club and involved in most all our community service projects. He
was so very involved in the community and a big supported of our
community.
Additional names will be added to the memorial stone;
better know as the 450 pound back breaker rock to a few of us. The new
marker was added on April 9, 2005. |
